| 摘要： | On a recent visit to the Channel island of Sark, former Lothian Buses operations director Bill Campbell was reminded of something altogether more expensive and overhyped when he sampled its public bus service. Only tractors and horse-drawn vehicles are permitted there, and Harbour Hill Transport uses the former - built by Renault - to haul the open-sided trailers that for a mere £1.50 (child fare 50p) convey visitors between the landing stage for the Guernsey ferry and the Bel Air Inn. For reasons Bill cannot begin to understand, the trailer shown here is built for British nearside boarding, while the other complies with continental European practice. These bendybuses have the same number of wheels as the Wright StreetCars with which First attempted to wean cities off more expensive trams around 15 years ago with 'ftr', the shorthand brand for a future apparently devoid of vowels as well as tramlines. |
