Buses December was another great issue - as always: informative, thought-provoking, and very enjoyable reading. May I comment: You are so right that bus companies are abysmal at publicity ((Comment, page five) with honourable exceptions, not just promoting carbon saving, but even about 'small' things like timetables. When did you ever see a bus shelter with 'Buses every hour to X' using print as large as in the ad for the car dealer? Phil Stockley's excellent piece (Inside Track) listing the problems and costs involved with battery buses, in conjunction with the fascinating article with the new Wrightbus management, made me see the potential for hydrogen - but also made me think: why is no one talking Trolleybus here? After all, trolleys are an old and well-understood technology, and are in daily use all over the world, using modern extras such as back-up batteries and automatically raising poles. They are popular, fast, quiet and simple mechanically. |
