Month after month your letters pages swell with letters about the parlous state of publicity for bus services. I too care about publicity (having contributed several times to Buses 'Publicity Matters' feature) but it seems to me many of these complaints, often from bus enthusiasts, are misplaced. They want to explore (perhaps even only from their armchairs) the far reaches of a rural network, or make 'exciting' connections in out-of-the-way places; the sort of trip no regular passenger would ever countenance. I too love to take such trips, but shouldn't we recognise that this doesn't make up a core market for bus operators, and cannot therefore be catered for with paper maps etc that no-one else wants? |
