The picture on page 58 of the December issue brought back many memories of trips to Nottingham when I was a child in the mid-to-late 1950s. Born and brought up in Derby, my mother and grandmother used to go to Nottingham two or three times a year. These trips were routinely on Wednesdays, as that day was half-day closing in Derby, whereas half-day closing in Nottingham was Thursdays. In due course, I and my sister became old enough to take part in these shopping trips. The one shortly before Christmas was a highlight of the year. Trent's set-down point in Nottingham was exactly where the Atlantean is in the picture, in Mount Street and just after the route's right turn from Chapel Bar. The bus would then draw forward and turn right into the (original) Mount Street bus station, which the N&D Bristol in the picture will shortly be doing. |
