I recently visited Belper; a small town eight miles north of Derby. Walking down the main street I noticed a blue and white painted minibus, with no destination panel. There was just a small paper sticker in the front windscreen stating that this bus was operating the 138 service to Langley (a suburb of Heanor, a town situated eight miles North East of Derby). Assuming it was operated by a local operator; it was with some surprise that I ascertained it was operated by Notts & Derby (a Wellglade-owned company) and is normally part of their Unibus fleet. More significantly to not having a destination panel it was not a low floor bus (Mercedes sprinter reg WX06 UTR). While I accept it may well have had a wheelchair lift most customers who benefit from level access are less ambulant or parents with pushchairs rather than users of wheelchairs it is simply unacceptable to use such a vehicle on an advertised timetable service. |
