Stagecoach has agreed a £20million deal to add Tower Transit's Lea Interchange operation to its tendered London bus business. It broke the news a week after the majority of the group's shareholders - including co-founder Sir Brian Souter - accepted infrastructure investment company DWS's cash bid to acquire Stagecoach and delist it from the London stock exchange. The purchase of the 150-vehicle Tower Transit business is its first substantial UK bus acquisition since it bought First's operations in Wigan, Chester and Wirral ten years ago. It complements its existing East London and Selkent businesses based either side of the River Thames in the east of the UK capital, bringing 11 Transport for London contracts and annual turnover of around £38million. |
