Major servicing and repair savings are being achieved by fleets that are switching to zero-emission battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell buses, says Ian Gillott, managing director, parts and service, at Wrightbus. "They require as much as 70% less maintenance than their diesel equivalents," he says. "Remember that there are no moving parts in a traction battery or a fuel-cell, so the saving is fantastic." There is no requirement to drain engine oil or swap oil filters regularly; and there is a cost to disposing of potentially-carcinogenic waste oil and used filters in an environmentally-friendly manner. Nor do technicians have to ensure AdBlue reservoirs are kept topped up, or resolve issues with, sometimes fractious, Euro6 emission control systems that regularly cause warning lights to illuminate. |
