Working my way through a list of British manufacturers, I see that I have not so far featured any Karriers. That includes Karriers made in Huddersfield and those built from 1935 onwards under the Karrier name at the Commer works in Luton (motorbuses) and at the Sunbeam works in Wolverhampton (trolleybuses) after the company into Rootes Group ownership in August 1934. Trolleybuses apart, hardly any Karrier-badged passenger vehicles were produced until the 1950s, when around 50 of 25cwt type were fitted with 12- to 14-seat coach bodies for the home market, three-quarters of which were built by Reading & Company of Hilsea, Portsmouth. |
