Michael Dryhurst's observations concerning RT steering as against RTWs and RTLs (You Write, Buses June) was very interesting. In the provinces, I had a fleet that contained both AEC Regent IIIs and Leyland PD2s and 3s. The AECs were mainly older than the Leylands having joined Lancaster City Transport from the Morecambe operation at Local Government Reorganisation. There is no doubt that the steering on the Regent IIIs was much easier than on the heavy Leylands, although one did have to turn the steering wheel on the AECs further than one did on the Leylands to obtain a similar lock. |
