Thankyou first of all for an excellent July edition of Buses, full of interesting, relevant and thought-provoking articles. I'd like to respond to several of them briefly in the order they appear. James Day's comment headed 'Competition and Buses' is very relevant. It is certainly true that other bus operator are by no means the only competition bus operators face. Arguably the two main ones are the private car and a planning system which permits totally inappropriate and unsympathetic developments, designed in ways that simply can't be served properly by the bus and overload local roads with more traffic, thereby increasing the pressure and delays likely to be experienced by local bus operators. |
