In her role as a civil celebrant, Mrs M has conducted many families' fitting farewells over the past dozen or so years with all sorts of personal touches requested by nearest and dearest. It must only be a matter of time before a service involves such a quirky hearse as adapted Routemaster RML2262, which Robert Howard spotted being advertised on a roadside in Nottingham. It's a bus with its own back story. When delivered to London Transport in 1965, its first public duty was to be shipped over the Atlantic to a trade fair in Toledo, Ohio before entering public service in 1966. It was repowered with an Iveco engine in 1991 and ended its capital service with Go-Ahead London. AW Lymn has owned it since 2009 and it was in the line-up at the Routemaster 60 event at Finsbury Park in 2014. |
