We regard it as a badge of honour that the content of Buses is too mainstream for the missing words round on Have I Got News for You. But something far better happened recently on BBC Radio 4 when we featured in the opening item on the comedy science programme The Infinite Monkey Cage. Host Robin Ince had found a copy of Buses Illustrated No.8 from 1951 in a secondhand bookshop in Chorleywood and he and co-presenter Prof Brian Cox were fascinated by the contents of this, the first of what for the next few years would be a quarterly magazine, having resumed publication after a year's break. This also was the first produced under the guidance of our second editor, the youthful E John Smith who sadly died eight years later. |
