Insuring preserved buses has its pluses and minuses for the underwriters and brokers involved in a somewhat-unusual sector of the insurance market. On the plus side, they know that the owners are dedicated to looking after their vehicles and will not expose them to any unnecessary hazards if they can possibly help it. That is the case no matter whether they are private individuals, a preservation group, or a museum. These often-elderly vehicles do very low annual mileages - or may never turn a wheel at all - which minimises their exposure to road risk, and they travel at low speeds. They are typically driven with great care by individuals with many years of experience at the wheel, who are well- aware of their vehicle's behavioural quirks. |
