The loss of Glasgow's weekend night service network (Scottish Column last month) was averted when First Glasgow and McGill's agreed to operate a new night service pattern from August 25, with nine routes in place of the previous 11. McGill's identified a commercial opportunity to enter the market when First Glasgow proposed the withdrawal all the services, saying they were making a loss and exacerbated its shortage of drivers. First Glasgow is continuing to operate four services, N2 (Easterhouse via Shettleston), N18 (East Kilbride Greenhills via Rutherglen), N240 (Cleland via Tollcross, Bellshill and Wishaw) and N267 (Hamilton Hillhouse via Gorbals, Rutherglen and Cambuslang). Outward journeys on the N2 depart the city centre at 00:50, 02:00 and 03:10. There are only two departures on the other three considerably longer routes; the N18 departs at 01:10 and 03:10, the N240 and N267 at 00:20 and 03:05. The two services withdrawn are N2 (Faifley) and N6 (East Kilbride Calderwood). |
