Buses is hosting a Scottish conference next year, part of a two-day event focusing on Scotland's transport development at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow. The bus conference takes place on Thursday, March 9, forming day two of a conference programme jointly staged with Modern Railways as part of its highly successful conference calendar. Through a keynote address from an individual placed highly in either the Scottish Government or Transport Scotland, the event will look at the future for the bus in Scotland and how it fits into a Scottish government agenda of reduced vehicle emissions, promotion of active travel, an ambition to reduce day-to-day car use and the granting of powers for local authorities to operate their own bus services. The event will also hold discussions on what passengers want and how the industry - whether in private or public ownership - can better meet their needs and expectations. The experience so far with the deployment of zero-emission vehicles will also be a topic for discussion, as will the role of driverless vehicles. |
