There were also some dramatic changes of fortune for manufacturers competing in the modestly enlarged market for single-deck buses. The sixfold increase in deliveries by Volvo took it within five units of market leader Alexander Dennis's Enviro200 diesel, although the BYD-powered Enviro200EV preserved British dignity and thus ensured that Alexander Dennis bodied well over a third of all single-deckers. Volvo's B8RLE, now bodied exclusively by MCV, attracted several large orders from Scottish operators as well many smaller ones from English independents. Lothian was the biggest customer, taking 30 which had been built towards the end of 2020, followed by 25 for Stagecoach North Scotland for a local authority contract in Orkney and 12 for Whitelaw's of Stonehouse. |
