摘要: The glory days of Western National and Southern National in Devon were recalled once again at the popular Thames Valley & Great Western Omnibus Trust's Kingsbridge running day in the South Hams on September 17, two days before the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ. Many traditional routes radiated from Kingsbridge bus station, operated by a wide range of vehicles mainly of Western National origin. As previously, 7ft 6in wide buses were required on those negotiating the narrow lanes for which the area is noted. Nevertheless, wider vehicles - including Bristol Lodekkas and VRTs - ran on routes which saw double-deck operation in Western National days. The 8ft-wide vehicles included organiser Colin Billington's Southern National 1376 (OTT 85), a 1954 Bristol LS6G with ECW's touring coach bodywork. It was photographed returning from a tour to Blackpool Sands, passing the war memorial on Slapton Sands which commemorates the 749 American servicemen killed there when training for the 1944 D-Day landings in Normandy. The Union Flag was flying at half-mast following the death of the late Queen.
