Climate Action Strathaven is the first such group in Scotland to develop a bus service in furtherance of its aim of encouraging reduced car use. Its service 3C (Strathaven, Common Green-Glasgow, North Hanover Street) began on October 10, using a Mercedes-Benz Tourismo coach, with five weekday return trips (four on Saturdays), via Stonehouse and the M74. Single fares are £5, ten journeys are £40, and concession travel is free. Central SMT provided Strathaven with two through bus services to/ from Glasgow, via East Kilbride and Stonehouse respectively, but these disappeared many years ago. Realising the difficulties that presented to residents wishing to travel to the city, Climate Action has established its own service to encourage them to switch from car use. The organisation was established as a charity in 2020, with the aims of advancing citizenship, community development, environmental protection and improvement - all to be pursued in ways that enrich rather than constrain the local community and businesses. |
