Cancellations continue to plague passengers, as operators still struggle to reduce driver shortages in many parts of the country. Levels of information provided are variable, and while much use is made of Twitter to try and keep passengers up to date, some - especially Arriva and First, where Twitter accounts are mainly controlled centrally - are doing much less to let customers know. Particularly badly affected seems to be Stagecoach in Bedford, where long lists of cancellations often include peak journeys to Oxford and Cambridge. Both routes dropped from half-hourly to hourly off peak from the end of October. Metrobus in Crawley thinned out frequencies in the Crawley area in mid-October, to try and match timetables to the level of driver availability. However, it has resulted in some unmemorable frequencies, such as every 25 minutes on Bewbush-Gatwick route 3 (previously every 20 minutes) and routes 4/5 (Gatwick-Pound Hill) now running on an irregular headway offering three journeys roughly every 55 minutes, against a previous 15 minute headway. |
