First Bus has agreed a deal to purchase Londonderry-based Airporter, which had been in business for over 25 years and operated a frequent service linking Northern Ireland's second city with Belfast International Airport, at Aldergrove, and George Best Belfast City Airport, on the eastern outskirts of the city, using a fleet of (mostly) 16-seat Mercedes-Benz Sprinter/ EVM minicoaches. The acquisition includes the transfer of all drivers and operational staff, also the Airporter base at Springtown Industrial Estate, once the home of much of the famous Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway Company fleet. Service revisions from November will see a new route linking Derry-Londonderry (Foyleside coach park) and Dublin via Drumahoe park-&-ride, Belfast International Airport, Belfast (Glengall Street) and Dublin Airport so providing a direct connection between the two biggest airports on the island of Ireland for the first time. |
