The Historic Commercial Vehicle Society has cancelled this year's London-Brighton run originally planned for May 7. With May 6 set as the date of the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, with an extra bank holiday on May 8, the HCVS hoped to reschedule the long established bus and commercial vehicle rally for pre-1983 vehicles to the following Sunday, but this raised new difficulties. Some suppliers and volunteers were unable to attend, another event on Brighton beach would be dismantling its stands and the date clashed with preplanned events elsewhere. The society also was having problems finding a new start point outside the London low emission zone, as post-1973 participating vehicles would require lorry permits if the run continued to start from Crystal Palace Park. "Work is progressing on that front and we are hopeful for 2024," it says. The date set for next year's run is Sunday May 12. |
