Eager enthusiasts were out in force in Hong Kong on January 15 when vintage vehicle rallying resumed for the first time since the Covid pandemic began in early 2020, and the Island Vintage Bus Group's 1949 Tilling-Stevens K5LA7 was back in public view. The group acquired the China Motor Bus (CMB) single-decker in late-2019 shortly before the imposition of strict lockdown controls on public movement. It has its original 7litre Gardner 5LW engine and five-speed David Brown constant mesh gearbox. Its locally built wooden-framed body is configured to cany two classes of passengers. Besides the Tilling-Stevens, the group also has four other CMB vehicles in its care, a 1963 Guy Arab V single-decker, a 1978 MCW Metrobus, a 1990 tri-axle Dennis Condor and a 1998 tri-axle Volvo Olympian. |
