摘要: Asphalt mix design for commercial airports in the United States is performed in accordance with guidelines set forth in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular 150/5370-10D, Standards for Specifying Construction of Airports, Item P-401--Plant Mix Bituminous Pavements. A Marshall mix design procedure is used. Since the highway industry is rapidly converting to Superpave technology for the design of asphalt mix used in highway pavements, it is becoming more difficult to find contractors who are willing to design asphalt mix according to Marshall specifications and will become even more so in the future. The objective of this project was to establish specifications for designing asphalt mixes using the Superpave Gyratory Compactor that provides performance equivalent to the specifications for the Marshall mix designs.
