In conclusion, B2Last brings a new type of science from an engineering perspective. In contrast to products that are blended, B2Last is fully reacted; it becomes one with the asphalt. In contrast to other polymeric additives, it is not a two-part system to be stirred continuously. B2Last is compatible with most bitumen, so is ideal for new pavement construction. It is designed to increase the useful temperature interval (UTI) of bitumen, maintain workable viscosity levels and reduce stripping of the aggregates. All this leads to a more durable pavement. In many European countries, an increasing number of road authorities are already taking action to increase the use of WMA and recycling end-of-life pavement to reduce emissions. Consequently, B2Last should be viewed as a new way of improving bitumen properties and, when being used at an asphalt mixing plant, being able to fulfill the requirements to produce warm mix asphalt. In addition to successful paving operations that have been conducted globally, BASF has partnered with the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) in Auburn, Texas, to conduct a Phase I study as part of BASF's ongoing programme of B2Last trial evaluation. |
