Based on excavators, heavily modified long reach excavators are used for many demolition projects. The use of a long reach excavator mounting a tool such as a breaker or cutter allows high structures to be dismantled safely and in a controlled fashion. Some manufacturers have allowed specialists to adapt their standard machines for this task, while others have taken the job in-house and developed their own models. Typical modifications include tilting cabs and CCTV equipment mounted on the boom that allow an operator to see the working area more easily, heavy duty cab protection, reinforced slew rings large counterweights and of course, much longer booms and dippers. The longest reach demolition machines developed in-house by a manufacturer is Kobelco's new SK1300DLC model. With an operating weight of 130tonnes and a reach of up to 40m, the SK1300DLC is currently the world's largest OEM manufactured building demolition machine. |
