摘要: A BMW owner in the UK city of Darlington made the foolish error of ignoring signs posted on a road when parking the car. The signs had been placed by the local council, saying that the road was closed so that resurfacing work could be carried out. When the driver returned to the car, the repair team had resurfaced the road around the BMW, leaving the patch it was parked on untouched. Council employees attempted to contact the owner of the car but were not successful. The resurfacing work will have to be completed later and at additional cost, although the lack of parking restrictions on the road mean the driver is unlikely to have to pay up. A couple in Hawaii got something of a shock recently when they were sent a bill of US$18,000 to repair streetlights in the road where they live. The streetlights had been struck by lightning shortly beforehand during a storm and the electricity firm had to carry out repairs. According to the letter, the electricity firm thought the entire street belonged to the couple and was therefore charging the luckless pair for the repairs, as well as for maintenance works carried out and the power supplied over many years. The electricity company has since realised that the couple cannot be held responsible for the entire bill and a solution is being sought.
