摘要: This report outlines the development of an enhanced highway alignment evaluation and optimization model. A GIS-based software tool is prepared for alignment optimization that uses genetic algorithms for optimal search. The software is capable of quickly evaluating and optimizing numerous alignment alternatives, which may be particularly useful to decision-makers at the planning stages. In a conventional highway design process, highway planners and engineers can afford to examine relatively few candidate alignments. However, the actual number of alternatives worth evaluating may be very large. Furthermore, considerable time and cost is needed to find the best one among the candidate alignments since the conventional approach requires repetitive manual processes for detailed design and evaluation of each alternative. To overcome such limitations in the traditional highway design process, our research team has worked extensively on the development of the Highway Alignment Optimization (HAO) model since 1996.
