摘要：	This 2012 summary report addresses the current use of geographic information systems (GIS) and related technologies by State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) for environmental streamlining and stewardship, particularly in relation to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The report presents background information, a series of case studies, and a summary of conclusions. GIS for environmental streamlining is abbreviated as GIS4EST throughout the document. In order to develop case studies, the authors of this report interviewed representatives from five agencies about their respective GIS4EST applications, including: (1) California DOTs Cultural Resource Database and GIS applications. (2) Pennsylvania DOTs Proposal Screening Tool. (3)South Carolina DOTs Project Screening Tool. (4)Tennessee DOTs Statewide Environmental Management System. (5) Washington State DOTs Workbench. GIS4EST applications at State DOTs have advanced significantly over the last decade, and it is now much less common for an agency to develop a tool for an individual project. Instead, most current systems are intended to provide long-term support for environmental streamlining over the course of numerous projects.
