The purpose of this effort was to investigate human response to upper torso retraction with added helmet weight using the AFRL Body Positioning and Restraint Device (BPRD). The results indicated that since the measured center-of-gravity (CG) of the worst-case test helmet fell outside the current limits and no injuries were observed, it can be stated that the current mass property limits are valid for the torso retraction environment. In addition, since subjects met the current retraction time requirement with 2 pounds of added helmet weight, the torso retraction specification is valid for aircrew wearing helmet mounted systems (HMS). |
