摘要: Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) announced in Octoberthat it has been awarded a contract by Huntington In-galls Industries to build and deliver four main propulsion diesel engines featuring common-railtechnology to powerthe Navy's newest landing platform/dock (LPD) ship, LPD 32. The vessel will be the third San Antonio-class Flight Ⅱ amphibious ship. The 684'×105' ships are used to embarkand land Marines, their equipment and supplies ashore via air cushion or conventional landing craft and amphibious assault vehicles. Colorado-based Birdon America Inc. has been awarded a $1.2 billion contract to design and build 27 waterways commerce cutters (WCC) for the Coast Guard. The WCC contract comprises two separate but related vessel designs: the river buoy tender (WLR) and the inland construction tender (WLIC). Both variants are complex, modern, and designed to military standards. The new cutterdesign is expected to provide up to 11 days of accommodation and habitability for up to 19 crewmem-bers. The 27 WCCs will be constructed within a 10-year period beginning with an 18-month design finalization period. Bollinger Shipyards, Lockport, La., will subcontract to Birdon for production of the bare hulls.
