It is customary at the beginning of the year to look back and assess both what we have faced over the past 12 months, and what we can learn from this to prepare ourselves for the next dozen. The past year - and likely even the stretch back to the beginning of the pandemic - has shown us how a small change or an event that doesn't seem to have an immediate impact on one's operations can cause massive disruptions and lead to a cascading effect. In the case of the maritime industry, the grounding of the Ever Given in the Suez Canal in March 2021 is, of course, one such example. It took only one ship to severely disrupt trade operations. |
