A crucial question as maritime casualties, such as serious ship fires, and multiple lesser incidents continue to demonstrate the critical importance of correctly declaring and packing goods in containers. It is fundamentally the responsibility of shippers to ensure that all other counterparties in the global supply chain are made aware of the exact contents of every single consignment. TT Club's analysis of claims indicates that two-thirds of incidents related to cargo damage are caused by poor practices that occur before the container leaves the packing location. Such deficiencies result in multimillion dollar losses, including tragic container ship fires with loss of seafarers' lives. |
