Eielson AFB is proposing to construct a new munitions storage pad to replace an existing facility that is too small and situated in a location that will not allow expansion. Live munitions are built on Quarry Hill and prepositioned in a munitions holding area near the flight line before they are loaded on aircraft just prior to training missions. The current munitions holding area is Introduction. The capacity of the existing munitions holding area cannot be increased due to explosive safety requirements. Description of the Proposed Action The Proposed Action will result in the construction of a 200-foot by 250-foot munitions storage pad and an. accompanying 1,800-foot long access road. In addition, a power. line would be extended from Mullins Pit Road and run adjacent to the storage pad access road in a 40-foot-wide right-of-way. The project will result in the filling and alteration of5.42 acres of black spruce wetlands. |
