Systems Micro Technology Inc. (SMT) has developed and tested a small-size, low-cost, extremely low-power prototype (KIED) enabled to detect explosives and weapons in transit systems. The system is totally safe for humans and animals. During this project, SMT demonstrated the feasibility of detecting various components of improvised explosives devices (IEDs) including explosive compounds, liquid, and strong reflectors (e.g., shrapnel and other metallic materials). SMT???s system also has the capability to measure the psychophysical parameters (stress level) of the suspected terrorist remotely in order to increase the confidence of detection of potential threats. During this project, SMT demonstrated the feasibility of detecting explosives and other dangerous objects and monitoring the cardiopulmonary state of human subjects using the KIED prototype in a non-revenue environment. |
