摘要: Motor vehicle collision (MVC) rates have been shown to fall roughly by half for elderly drivers after cataract surgery. Currently, most insurers allow payment for cataract surgery based upon an individual's self-reported visual difficulties or adverse visual symptoms. Consequently, surgery tends to occur some time after significant vision problems have emerged. The project used simulation modeling to find how many MVCs and deaths might be avoided if cataract surgery were to be performed earlier, that is, at lower levels of complaints about vision or at less severe levels of vision problems.
