Reflecting on the fiscal year 2012 Research Program, I am proud of all that our team and our colleagues in the community have accomplished. Transportation research has expanded within ODOT due to strong technical liaison interests and efforts, as well as having dedicated researchers. Amid a context of continuing department-wide reorganization, state pension reform for an impending retirement population, pressure to tighten budgets, and the delays of committed transportation projects out to 2036--creativity and commitment have been key. Some notable Research Program activities during fiscal 2012 include hosting a peer exchange, partnering with the Ohio Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Center, and reaching out to ODOT Districts. Each of these I will describe in some detail below. |
