摘要: The discussion presents a valuable contribution to this research, addressing the simplistic assumption the writer had made, that H_b ≈ h_b≈h_(L/2), by presenting a method whereby the writer's design scour formula may be modified to accommodate a statistical probability density function for a design wave height, which was exemplified by its application to part of the Sutherland et al. (2006) data set. While the writer's design scour formula was calibrated to not underpredict any of the very large range of flume scour data presented, the modified method proposed in the discussion underpre-dicted 86% of the measured scour data of Sutherland et al. (2006) by up to around 30%. This indicated that, unless recalibrated, the method proposed may not be suitable for structural design.
