摘要: MyRoadTripAdvisor.com is working prototype of a forecasting service that predicts travel time for a given route based on both historical patterns and current conditions; the latter includes any information available to us about incidents (e.g., accidents), weather, and work zones. The service was accessible to users throughout the projects field trial at http://www.myroadtripadvisor.com. In later sections we describe how the system was hosted in a virtual, cloud-based environment. While shut down as of this writing, the service can quickly be restarted, thus we use present tense to describe our IDEA Products capabilities throughout this section. Any visitor to the site can use a QuickPlanner function to obtain a forecasted travel time for a trip. Registered users can go a step further and save frequent trips by name, and optionally request the service to push these forecasts to them in advance of their planned departure time, giving them the option to take an alternate route, work at home, etc., should their trip be forecasted to take longer than expected.
