摘要: The transportation sector is the source of approximately 27% of total U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (EPA, 2015), and these emissions are projected to increase in the future (NHTSA, 2011). Given the potentially severe impacts of climate change, policy makers are looking at methods to reduce GHG emissions from all transportation sources. Three broad approaches have been identified to reduce passenger vehicle emissions: improving vehicle technology to increase fuel efficiency, switching to low or no carbon fuels, and changing travel choices such as mode and vehicle choice, destination and trip chaining choices, and vehicle occupancy rates. Changes in these behaviors can lead to reductions in overall GHG emissions through reductions in vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and GHG intensity per passenger mile of travel. While
