Eight months after an explosion and fire closed the Freeport (Texas) liquefied natural gas facility, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued it a permission to begin loading LNG ships from its terminal. FERC's loading authorization, given February 9 after a request from Freeport LNG, is only one step in a series of permissions required for Freeport to restart its liquefaction "trains" (units). Loading out LNG to ships from its storage tanks will clear space in the inventory tanks. Freeport said it is planning a sequential restart of the 15-mil-lion-tons-per-year-capacity export terminal's three liquefaction trains, which have been offline since a fire at the facility June 8, 2022. The facility will need a separate permission to actually restart the liquefaction trains. |
