U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit (MSU) Paducah paid tribute to the American flag during a first-of-its-kind ceremony June 14 in Paducah. Organized by Lt. Commander Mihai Leta, the unit's executive officer, the celebration was attended by many local first responders along with city and county officials. Seamen's Church Institute river chaplain the Rev. David Shirk attended, along with Army recruiting station commander Sgt. First Class John Head, who also gave a short talk to commemorate the U.S. Army's 247th birthday. The Paducah Fire Department displayed an enormous flag above Broadway at the intersection of Water Street. Commander Jennifer J. Andrew, MSU Paducah's commanding officer, Pa- ducah Mayor George Bray and McCrack-en County Judge-Executive Craig Cly-mer all gave speeches. To conclude the event, the Paducah Ambassadors led the Pledge of Allegiance. |
