TEN YEARS AGO, a deepening drought in the Midwest was already ranked as the sixth-worst drought in U.S. history; Blessey Marine Services christened the 1,200 hp. Neal J. Sengo, built by A&B Industries; and Living Lands & Waters christened its new barge. TWENTY YEARS AGO, the director of civil works for the Corps of Engineers promised a major study to improve the Corps' planning; and Republic Barge Transportation Company christened its first pair of towboats, the 2,600 hp. mvs. Jay Bludworth and Karla Bludworth, in Houston. THIRTY YEARS AGO, Glen-dale Boat Works Inc. completed renovation of the mv. Sequoia for Gantt Marine Services Inc. of Houston, Texas; McGinnis Inc. added a 2,500-ton drydock to its South Point, Ohio, plant; and three proposed barge terminals on the Tennessee River were delayed by concerns about the wood chip mills the terminals would support. |
