The Sierra Club, along with a nonprofit advocacy group called Healthy Gulf, announced last month that it has filed a lawsuit against the Corps of Engineers for issuing a Clean Water Act Section 404 "dredge and fill" permit for the proposed $25 billion Driftwood LNG fracked gas export terminal in southwest Louisiana. The plaintiffs argue that the permit falls short of legal requirements to avoid and compensate for impacts to wetlands, as required under section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Driftwood LNG LLC, owned by Tellurian Inc., is developing a liquefied natural gas production and export terminal on the west bank of the Calcasieu River, south of Lake Charles, La. Once complete, the terminal will be able to export up to 27.6 million tons of LNG per year to customers worldwide. |
