| 摘要： | As the threat of a government shutdown increasingly looms by October 2, after the current fiscal year ends September 30, sources contacted in the Coast Guard and Corps of Engineers said they were being told to wait for instructions from their bosses on shutdown plans. Essential maritime services would not be directly affected in the event of a shutdown. Locks and dams will continue to be operated, and the Coast Guard will continue to inspect vessels. A St. Louis Engineer District spokesman, George Stringham, told The Waterways Journal, "We know we have dredging money even if a funding bill is not passed [in time to avert a shutdown]." The Corps has committed to keeping channels open and will use emergency funds if necessarv. |
