The deadline of midnight May 16 is approaching for grant submissions to the Port Infrastructure Development Program. The PIDP was authorized by Congress as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010. The legislation states, «The Secretary of Transportation, through the Maritime Administrator, shall establish a port infrastructure development program for the improvement of port facilities." In February, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced that the Biden administration would double grant funding for the PIDP to $450 million. The Department of Transportation intends to award the $450 million on a competitive basis for "projects that improve facilities within, or outside of and directly related to operations oi or an intermodal connection to, coastal seaports, inland river ports and Great Lakes ports." |
