摘要: One hundred and ten in-use motorcycles (MY 1966-’99) were randomly selected from a onehundred-mile radius of the contractor’s facility in Santa Ana, California. A solicitation mailing to approximately 2,5(K) potential candidates resulted in a ten percent response rate representing owners of six major vehicle manufacturers. Specific vehicles were qualified using a detailed six-page questionnaire developed by California Environmental Engineering and the Air Resources Board. Twenty-five percent of the selected vehicle sample had some level of tampering, mostly exhaust related. The total vehicle sample was tested using the Unified Cycle (UC) Emission testing method that is most closely aligned with driving patterns of light-duty vehicles in California. Some vehicles were also tested using the Federal Test Procedure (FTP) to obtain comparison data between ITP and UC. A subset of vehicles was also tested for evaporative emission levels. Older vehicles and those altered or modified typically displayed higher emission levels using both test procedures. Fifty-six percent of the vehicles subjected to the evaporative emission test met the established specification. No specific conclusions have been drawn from the database established and provided as Project 97-600.
