The purpose of this field evaluation was to monitor the installation procedures and field performance of an elastic cement patching material, known by the trade name “percol Elastic Cement AC Grade”. This product consists of a two-part component that is percolated over open graded aggregates to form a semi-flexible polymer concrete used for the repair of pavement potholes and spalls. The material is purported to bond directly to concrete, asphalt, epoxy modified asphalt, steel, and wood.
Percol is being considered as an alternative repair maintenance option for patching pavement potholes and spalls on bridge decks and other pavement deficiency problem areas in Pennsylvania.
One project site was constructed in Pennsylvania for the purpose of this evaluation. The project was monitored at regular intervals over a six-month period. The visual monitoring noted the performance of the patching material relative to bleeding, dishing, debonding, raveling, and pushing and shoving.
The performance evaluation demonstrated the system’s ability to perform as designed and provides a rapid, cost effective repair option for pavement potholes and spalls. Percol is being recommended for use in Pennsylvania as a maintenance option for the repair of pavement potholes and spalls.
