Various stress measurement techniques were evaluated in this study. The evaluation included a state-of-the-art review of existing techniques and analytical studies of these techniques. Based on analytical results the flat-jack direct stress measurement technique was evaluated in laboratory and field tests. Based on these tests a manual of instruction was written to describe the equipment and procedures required to obtain reliable direct stress measurements.
This manual of instruction outlines the equipment and techniques used in taking stress measurement readings. In addition, techniques for data analysis are explained
