Captured on camera recently by river enthusiast Capt. C.R. Neale with Neale Marine Transportation & Fleeting Service, the newly named and remodeled mv. Mackenzie Rose attracts attention along the Monongahela River with its striking new paint scheme. The boat is owned by Imperial River Transport LLC out of Dunlevy, Pa. Imperial River bought the 168-foot, 4,200 hp. twin-screw vessel recently from Ingram Barge and renamed it after a niece of company owner Dave Johnson. Built in 1967 by Dravo Corporation, it was originally operated as the mv Steel Clipper by Ohio Barge Line for nearly 20 years until sold to Ingram Barge. Imperial River Transport is in the process of modernizing its 10-vessel fleet. The company has been successfully operating an assortment of older boats for the transportation of mostly coal on the Ohio and Monongahela rivers for many years. Recently, the company put into service the mv. John Austin, a 2,600 hp. boat built by C&C Marine and Repair. "At the end of the day," Johnson said, "we plan to have a fleet of new and like-new vessels." |
