Road transport is one of the important modes of transport for passenger and freight movement in India. As per Worid Health Organisation road crashes related deaths are eighth leading cause of death. To reduce injuries in road crashes, better understanding is needed between the relationship of injury severity and risk factors. The road crashes data for the years between 2016 to 2018 was used for the analysis. The crashes data was analysed and it was further categorised based on collision characteristics, road characteristics, vehicle type, location type, type of area around location and environmental characteristics. In the data set the crash severity was categorised as fatal, major, minor and no injury. Multinomial logit and Ordered Probit Model were used to analyse the crash severity. The results from the model indicates that the crash involving single vehicle, the collision type hit the pedestrian, residential area, crashes at the junction all leads to fatal and severe injury crashes. The pedestrians are more exposed to the crashes and have more likely to face severe injuries. Hence the pedestrian safety must be increased by providing cross walks. |
